Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our transport operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient scheduling of vehicles and drivers, maintaining compliance with transport legislation, optimising fleet performance, and supporting the continued growth of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated logistics professional to play a key role within a growing transport company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage the company’s daily road transport operations to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of goods.
  • Supervise vehicle scheduling, route planning, and driver allocation to maximise operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Monitor driver hours, tachograph records, and working time regulations to ensure legal compliance.
  • Oversee the maintenance, servicing, MOT scheduling, and roadworthiness of the company fleet.
  • Manage relationships with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure high levels of service delivery.
  • Monitor transport costs, fuel usage, vehicle utilisation, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate operational issues, delivery delays, and customer concerns, implementing effective corrective actions where necessary.
  • Prepare operational reports, transport documentation, and performance analysis for senior management.
  • Ensure accurate transport records are maintained, including vehicle inspections, maintenance logs, compliance documentation, and delivery records.
  • Support recruitment, training, supervision, and performance management of drivers and transport staff.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the transport operation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Transport Manager or in a senior transport or logistics management role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK road transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, and Working Time and Drivers’ Hours Regulations.
  • Experience managing commercial vehicle fleets and transport operations.
  • Excellent route planning, fleet management, and operational coordination skills.
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance, health and safety, and fleet maintenance requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships with customers, drivers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transport management software.
  • Ability to analyse operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage Operations is highly desirable.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable.
