Position Summary
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Clothing and Fashion Designer to develop, design, and refine apparel collections that align with current fashion trends and customer preferences. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating innovative clothing designs, selecting appropriate fabrics and materials, overseeing sample production, and working closely with suppliers and production teams to ensure high-quality garments are delivered for retail sale through market stalls and retail outlets.

Key Responsibilities
Research fashion trends, consumer preferences, seasonal styles, and market demands to develop commercially viable clothing collections.
Create original clothing designs, sketches, technical drawings, and specifications for garments and fashion accessories.
Select fabrics, colours, trims, patterns, and materials appropriate for each collection.
Prepare design concepts, mood boards, and product development documentation.
Develop prototypes and sample garments, evaluating fit, functionality, and overall design quality.
Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, and production teams to ensure designs are accurately interpreted and produced.
Monitor production processes to ensure garments meet quality standards and design specifications.
Modify and improve designs based on customer feedback, sales performance, and market trends.
Coordinate seasonal collections and product launches for retail sales.
Ensure products comply with relevant quality, safety, and textile industry standards.
Collaborate with merchandising and sales teams to develop product ranges that maximise commercial performance.
Maintain accurate records of design specifications, production samples, and product development activities.
Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience in clothing and fashion design.
Strong understanding of garment construction, textiles, fabrics, and pattern development.
Proficiency in fashion illustration and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Knowledge of current fashion trends, retail merchandising, and consumer behaviour.
Excellent creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively with suppliers, manufacturers, and retail teams.
High attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in Fashion Design, Clothing Design, Textile Design, or a related field is preferred.
Relevant industry experience may substitute for formal qualifications where applicable.
Employment Conditions
Full-time position.
Standard working hours with flexibility during seasonal collection launches and production periods.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, skills, and experience.
Work Environment
The role involves a combination of design studio work, product development, supplier liaison, and retail product planning. Occasional travel may be required to source materials, visit manufacturers, or attend fashion exhibitions and industry events.

Reporting To
The Clothing and Fashion Designer reports to the Business Owner/Managing Director and works closely with merchandising, production, purchasing, and retail sales teams to deliver commercially successful clothing collections.
